About the Symposium
The Inaugural Stroke Symposium
The 1st Annual Stroke Symposium 2025 was the inaugural gathering of healthcare professionals dedicated to improving stroke care outcomes across Kenya and East Africa. The symposium brought together physicians, surgeons, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists in a collaborative environment focused on evidence-based approaches to stroke prevention, acute management, and long-term rehabilitation. This landmark event set the foundation for ongoing multidisciplinary dialogue aimed at standardizing care and reducing stroke-related morbidity and mortality.
Scientific Objectives
What We Set Out to Achieve
Four core objectives shaped the symposium’s clinical agenda — each designed to drive measurable improvements in stroke care delivery.
Standardise Clinical Pathways
Establish consistent stroke management protocols and clinical guidelines across hospitals in the region to reduce variability in care quality.
Multidisciplinary Management
Promote collaborative, team-based care involving neurologists, surgeons, radiologists, nurses, and rehabilitation professionals working in concert.
Faster Referral Systems
Improve patient transfer pathways from peripheral clinics and district hospitals to fully equipped stroke units and stroke-ready centres.
Timely Acute Intervention
Emphasise the critical importance of early intervention windows in acute stroke to prevent permanent disability and reduce mortality rates.
